I’d be the first to admit the love we have for the Lord is feeble at best and at worst is our human attempt to at least mimic the awesome love extended to us by the God of the universe.
God’s love for us is beyond the capacity of our mentality to take it in, but it is our lifelong challenge to accept it in spite of its illusiveness. The scripture writer prays that we get it, that we come to know the height, the depth, the width AND the love that is inarguably beyond out ability to comprehend or conquer.
So it is our privilege to spend our entire lives capturing nugget after nugget of proof of a love that’s so expansive a piece of it is all we can manage at a time. And as a new piece is gained comes the realization that the awe of the previous nugget has vanished in its reality and intensity.
God’s love is too much for us. It’s just too much! We’re not deep enough, not tall enough, not wide enough to manage even the illusion of understanding. So we give to him the best we can muster, in the purest form we can muster, in as many ways as we can muster, with as pure a motive as we can muster.
And we call it worship. Love rising. No strings attached. Simply rising as it frees itself from the horrors of the now, as it liberates itself from the weariness of the moment, as it lifts itself from the weight of memory.
Love rising…attempting to measure up
Attempting to meet, not compete, not complete
Attempting to embrace with inadequate arms
Attempting to speak with empty words
Attempting to requite the unmatchable
Love rising…refusing to be earthbound
Love rising…refusing to be bested
Love rising…refusing to be so rude as to ignore the best unmatchable gift ever given
Worship is love rising
